The Oregon Dept. of Forestry’s Southwest Oregon District tallied 19 fires from Tuesday’s thunderstorms. One 3-acre fire was in Josephine County near Williams. The rest were in Jackson County, scattered from Butte Falls to Prospect, and in the Elk Creek drainage. The largest was a 4-acre fire near Cobleigh Rd, a few miles northwest of Butte Falls. Most of the fires were smaller than one-quarter acre, and are either lined and mopped up or contained.
A new series of lighting maps have been posted on the district’s SWO Fire Data page. A link is also in the SWO Wildfire Websites section on the upper right side of this page.
More thunderstorms are expected in Jackson and Josephine counties today.
